Around this time last year, my boyfriend, my rock, and my best friend began experiencing excruciating pain in his shoulder that no doctor could figure out. We bounced from doctor to doctor in order to figure out what could be causing such pain, that eventually transpired into some truly scary symptoms. After getting an extra, more thoughtful eye on an x-ray from our chiropractor, we learned that a massive tumor was the cause for all of his pain. At first we were told that the tumor was not cancerous, but following the surgery the biopsy revealed that it was. Words cannot express how utterly helpless I felt as I watched him suffer both emotionally and physically. One night while I was at the grocery store, I decided that I wanted to buy him some things that would hopefully make him smile. As I stood there in the greeting card aisle, I couldn't help but notice that every single sympathy card for this situation was a heart-wrenching, sympathetic expression that brought tears to my eyes. It was frustrating because all I wanted to do was give my boyfriend something that would make him smile...maybe even laugh a little.
As most of you know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Though never directly impacted by this cause, I certainly know what it is like to learn that someone close to you has been diagnosed with cancer. It is from that experience in the grocery store that night that I created a collection of cards specifically for this audience. When I designed my first card, which you see in this blog image, I showed it to my boyfriend and he told me that he would have loved to receive this card early on. A coworker of mine recently gave this same card to her mother who was diagnosed with cancer and absolutely loved it. I am certain that there are many more people like this who would appreciate the value of my cards.
